He was born in Istanbul in 1959. He is graduated from College of Istanbul in 1977 and started his higher education in Istanbul School of Medicine at the same year. He graduated in 1983 and worked as resident between 1986 and 1992 at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in the same faculty. In 1992 he became an orthopaedic surgeon and started to work as specialist in this clinic. He became Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 1996. Since April 2002 he is still working as faculty member and lecturer in the same clinic.
In 1993 he has worked at the Ilizarov Institute in Kurgan of Russia. Dr. Kocaoglu worked with Professor Dr. Paley about Ilizarov surgery in Baltimore of U.S.A. in 1997.
He participated in a few national courses about Ilizarov technique and national congress about external fixators as lecturer.
Dr. Kocaoglu has published more than 50 international and national works about Ilizarov surgery and external fixator techniques
