 Where is the method used?
1-Open and Closed Fractures
Open fractures are generally created by high energy traumas, like traffic accidents or by vertical falling crashes. These fractures generally prones to bone infections, called Osteomyelitis, due to the carrying of external microorganisms into the wound. In these cases, metal internal fixation devices should not be used, due to the risk increasing of an infection. External fixators, like the İlizarov device, should be prefered.

What are the advantages of the Ilizarov
 method?
1. Simulates bone formation.
2. Increases vascularization and bone healing.
3. Increased vascularisation works also against infections (osteomyelitis).
4.Deformities present before surgery or created postoperatively can be corrected without the need of anesthesia.
